Carbon Offset Travel Questions, Answered Straight

Carbon Offset Travel

Carbon offset travel raises fair questions, & some of them are sceptical. They deserve straight answers rather than brochure language, so here are the ones travellers ask us most.

What is a travel carbon offset?

Your trip produces greenhouse gas emissions — mostly from flights, plus cruising, transfers & accommodation. An offset funds carbon reduction elsewhere to balance that quantity. It does not make your flight emission-free, & anybody who tells you otherwise is overselling. It makes the emissions accounted for instead of unaccounted for, which is a meaningfully different thing from doing nothing.

Why offset at the moment of booking?

Because offsets deferred are offsets abandoned. The emissions are committed when you confirm the reservation, so that is the honest moment to deal with them. Klean Travel attaches the offset to the booking itself — cruise, vacation package, eco-tour or boutique hotel — so there is no second decision to forget. Book greener & reduce your travel emissions by booking with us.

Is offsetting just a licence to fly more?

It can be, & that is a legitimate criticism. Offsetting works best as the last step after reduction, not as a substitute for it. Travel less often, stay longer, choose nearer destinations, fly direct — then offset what remains. We would rather say that plainly than pretend an offset erases the trip.

Do I pay more for booking this way?

Our cruise bookings carry special negotiated rates & PriceMatch Plus, & our vacation packages include last-minute deals released within four weeks of departure. The commercial terms are built to be competitive, so the greener booking is not positioned as a luxury purchase.

Who is actually behind the offsets?

Klean Travel is wholly owned by Klean Industries, an industrial cleantech & resource-recovery engineering company. Carbon intensity management is a core service of the parent company, not a side line bought in from a broker.

What can I offset?

Anything we book: cruises, vacation packages to Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Cuba & Costa Rica, eco-tours such as our eight-day Caribbean yoga & nature retreat, & stays in specialised boutique hotels.
